Welcome to the Bell Pensioners' Group newest chapter: BPG Aliant Atlantic. This chapter was formed when the Bell Aliant Pensioners' Association of Newfoundland and Labrador (BAPANL) joined with the Bell Pensioners Group (BPG) in January 2018. The purpose of the Aliant Atlantic Chapter is to represent the best interests of all pensioners in Atlantic Canada and to protect the pensions and benefits they earned during their working careers.
Over the past couple of years we have seen many of our former co-workers from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfounland-Labrador connect with the chapter, some of whom have also joined our Chapter Executive and committees. That need is greater than ever now since many of our long-time committee members have chosen to move on. We appreciate all that they have done and contributed to the chapter and wish them well in the future.
Having a diverse representation of members and Committee volunteers across the region is vitally important to the success of our chapter so we hope that, if you are not already a member, you will join us and add to our strength as an organization, ensuring our pension and benefits provider meet their obligations and our government and regulators provide the protection they were elected or appointed to do.
BPG is looking for individuals to serve on the Board of Directors to help protect your pension and to support our members.
There are many exciting positions available in 2022.
If you have a legal background, we will have an opening for a Board Position that maintains contacts with organizations that lobby for the rights of pensioners and for discussions with legal counsel to support our efforts.
If you have a regulatory or management background, we have opportunities on the Pension committee.
Finally, we are also looking for someone to serve as one of the regional VPs.

As outlined at recent AGM’s, BPG’s financial statements show a significant increase in our accumulated surplus due to the pandemic and lack of face-to-face meetings. BPG decided in late 2021 to redistribute the equivalent of one years’ dues ($20) to all existing members in good standing for 2021 by automatically extending your membership by one year making 2022 a no-dues year. Therefore, your membership has been automatically renewed for 2022 and it’s free! If you had already pre-paid your membership for 2022, we have added an extra year to your membership.
2022 gives us an opportunity to grow our membership. There is strength in numbers so the larger the group, the louder our voice to be heard. A lot of our efforts over the coming years will be to lobby the government and advocate on behalf of our members for pension insolvency and bankruptcy legislation to better protect pensioners, partnering with CFP (Canadian Federation of Pensioners).
To attract new members, we have decided that any new member who joins BPG in 2022 and pays the regular membership fee of $20.00 will receive one year of free membership in 2023 basically a two years for the price of one deal. However, we still need your help! With the current environment and no face to face meetings to meet and socialize, it is very hard to recruit new members for our Chapter so we are looking to our existing members, who know the value that BPG offers, to help recruit on our behalf. BPG is pleased to announce the following contest incentive to our existing members.
Any existing BPG member who successfully recruits a new member to join in 2022, will be eligible to be entered into a draw within their Chapter. Enter early for more chances to win.
The Contest details are as follows:
We look forward to your participation in this incentive to help grow our membership in 2022!
