Changing faces on the Board

We will be saying goodbye to Al Bowcott who has served as Chapter Chair and most recently as our newsletter editor for several years. Don Smith a director at large who helped with whatever was asked of him at our meetings, Bruce Armstrong who took on the task of promoting our chapter meetings and the group in the various SNAP newsmagazines across our geographic area  and Alice Gould who helped to organize and coordinate our meetings and is an original member of BPG being part of the committee from the very inception of BPG and has worked tirelessly on our behalf and the prime mover behind our meetings in Oshawa, Barrie and Mississauga. We sadly lost Dave Barrett our membership database prime who passed away suddenly just after our fall 2016 meetings and his presence and significant contribution will be missed by all. Thanks to the efforts of our sustainability team of Camie Tang-Chang and Cathy Vendramin we have been able to recruit several new board members to bring new skills and ideas to our chapter board. Joining us is Kerri Murphy who has taken over as our meetings coordinator and has also volunteered to help on a couple other committees. Karen Lawson has taken over as our newsletter editor and has been given the challenge of giving our newsletter a fresh new look as well as making the content more inviting and will lead our communications efforts. Thanks to both Al Bowcott and Alice Gould who made significant contributions to BPG in General and our Chapter in particular. We wish them the best in the next phase of retirement.

  • Pensions are Contracts Too!

    August 6th, 2017

Thanks to CARP for this following recent article which provides and excellent reason to be a mamber fof the Bell Pensioners Group.

Every day, businesses make decisions: expand or retract, rent or buy, fix purchase prices or take their chances on the open market.  For better or worse, once they’ve made decisions, and signed contracts, they’re locked in.  Our laws and law courts make it so – and with good reason.  If businesses could walk away from their contractual obligations, chaos would rein, and our economy would literally collapse.

Unfortunately, there appears to be one notable exception to this rule.  When it comes to employees and their pensions, businesses have been all too ready to walk away from pension commitments, and out courts have been all too willing to let them.
