Minister Tassi meets with National Association of Federal Retirees President Jean-Guy Soulière and Director of Advocacy Sayward Montague to "Discuss Seniors Priorities".
The BPG and CFP submissions focused on our top two priorities for improvements to the pension regime:
The consultation process wrapped up in December 2018; we now await the recommendations from that process.
Over the past few years, CFP has been active in establishing relationships with other seniors-focused and pension-focused organizations, with a goal of strengthening our voice in support of protecting your pensions. As an example, CFP has collaborated with CARP on several pension-related initiatives.
In anticipation of the coming federal election, CFP has joined with eight other organizations to launch a “Vibrant Voices” campaign that will engage with MPs, candidates and our respective members to bring awareness to the issues facing today’s seniors and to ensure that those issues are addressed in campaign platforms and by our next federal government. This is an exciting opportunity for us to have a powerful voice, as this coalition represents 2 million members.
The Vibrant Voices campaign focusses on three priorities: making retirement income more secure, implementing a national seniors’ strategy and establishing a universal, national pharmacare program. Although BPG’s mandate is with the first of those priorities, we are supporting this full campaign since success with the other two priorities would also be beneficial for our members.
The Vibrant Voices campaign was launched on 20 February 2019, with a day of meetings with individual MPs from each of the parties, and an evening reception to which all MPs were invited. BPG representatives participated in the day’s activities, which were highlighted by an address from the federal Minister of Seniors, Filomena Tassi, at the reception.
In the coming months, we will be initiating further dialogue with current MPs, the parties and candidates and will keep you informed of our findings.
