For some time now, the Canadian Federation of Pensioners (CFP), of which BPG is a founding member, has been advocating for governments to increase pension protection. Bill C-228 is currently before Parliament and seeks to mitigate the risk of pension loss by putting pensioners closer to the front of the line when a company goes bankrupt.
All three opposition parties have similar private members' bills before the House so this is an opportunity for Parliamentarians to work together.
We’ve all heard heart-wrenching stories from people whose pensions were reduced when companies like Nortel or Sears became insolvent. Since 1982, some 250,000 vulnerable Canadian seniors have had their pensions reduced for life. Pension protection does not require taxpayer dollars.
CFP has created a tool which will allow you to email your MP asking them to support Bill C-228. If you wish to participate, you can simply click HERE to send your email.
Thank you.
